Foreword
Article Outline
Even though the worldwide incidence of gastric cancer has decreased over the last half-century, malignancy continues to be a major public health problem. In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Dr. Clancy Clark and his colleagues in the disciplines of surgery, hematology-oncology, gastroenterology and radiology at the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle have written an excellent monograph on the topic. Their treatise is especially worthwhile, because it thoroughly describes the substantial advances that have occurred in the diagnosis and management of patients with gastric cancer since the topic was last covered in CPS six years ago. This work will be a rich source of information for students of all disciplines who seek a better understanding of this deadly malignancy.
