Foreword

Article Outline

Pancreatic islet cell neoplasms are uncommon, however, because of the unusual clinical syndromes caused by the hormones secreted by their tumor cells, they have fascinated clinicians for decades. In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Drs. Mittendorf and Demeure, from the University of Arizona, and their associate authors, Drs. Inabnet and Shifrin (Columbia P&S), Dr. McHenry (Case Western Reserve) and Dr. Libutti (National Cancer Institute), have written an excellent monograph on this subject. The authors describe each of the islet cell tumors, including clinical presentation, methods of diagnosis, medical and surgical management, and prognosis. This monograph will be of great use to students of the topic regardless of their clinical discipline.
