Foreword
Article Outline
With the increased national emphasis on quality of care and patient safety, the May and June, 2007 issues of Current Problems in Surgery address a highly important topic: “Preventable Errors in the Operating Room.” Dr. David Reines at the Inova Health System in Fairfax, Virginia, in association with Dr. Stephen Moore at Inova Health System; Drs. Verna Gibbs and Fergus Coakley, of the University of California at San Francisco; Dr. T. Forcht Dagi of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Boston; and Dr. Ramon Berguer of the Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez, California, have written an excellent and highly valuable monograph on the topic. The articles are most timely and the authors’ recommendations serve as excellent guidelines for safe surgical practice in the operative theater.
