It has come to our attention that there are problems with the monograph published in Current Problems in Surgery entitled, Ethical Issues in Surgical Treatment and Research (Volume 40, Number 7, July 2003). Multiple passages from the sections entitled, “Ethics and End-of-Life Issues” (pp. 357-379) and “Ethics and Research in Surgery” (pp. 379-398) authored by Rene Lafreniere were taken from other sources without appropriate attribution given the original authors. We regret that this has occurred. This monograph is thus retracted with apologies to the authors of the unattributed works.
