Foreword

Article Outline

Carcinomas of the gall bladder or extrahepatic ducts are uncommon, and the surgical management of patients with these malignancies is challenging. Drs. Gallinger, Cleary, Dawson, and Knox at the University of Toronto have written an excellent monograph on this topic. They review the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and diagnosis of the diseases, as well as the place of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy in patient management. The closing section of the monograph, describing the University of Toronto approach to treating patients with these malignancies, provides an excellent summary, which is based on best available evidence. The reader will find that their treatise is thorough and well illustrated and the bibliography is extensive and current.
