Foreword

Article Outline

In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Drs. Franz, Steed and Robson address one of the most important areas of surgery in their monograph, “Optomizing Healing of the Acute Wound by Minimizing Complications.” Surgeons give little thought to the wound healing process when the patient’s postoperative course goes well, however, wound complications can present one of the most challenging problems in surgery. The authors are experts in the field of wound physiology and management and they address the topic thoroughly, beginning with a historical overview of wound healing and a discussion of the process of normal wound healing. They then address the various complications of wound healing, including the burn wound and excessive scar formation. This is an excellent monograph, which will be of use to practitioners of surgery regardless of their specialty.
