A Note to Our Readers
Article Outline
Dear Readers:
Current Problems in Surgery recently published a monograph entitled “Terror in the 21st Century: Milestones and Prospects—Part I,” by Drs. Gidon Almogy and Avraham I. Rivkin (August 2007). The authors offer insights into the medical and surgical treatment of injuries resulting from detonation of explosive devices in crowded places, as encountered in recent terrorist events. The authors included background material portraying the history and sociology of specific religious and non-religious terrorist movements (pp. 496-516). It has come to my attention that some readers may have felt offended by comments made by the authors in this monograph. I regret this, but realize that topics such as the one addressed by Almogy and Rivkin may contain controversial material. As Editor-in-Chief of Current Problems in Surgery, substantial latitude is given to authors of published articles, realizing that their views may not represent those of the editorial board or the publisher. Offense of any of our readers is never the intent of the editor, the editorial board, or the publisher.
Physicians and surgeons must always heal. Our skills are challenged every day. We hope to continue to provide our readers with information to improve their skills in a changing world.
