Foreword
Article Outline
The field of transplantation has advanced markedly over the last 50 years and the evolution of hepatic transplantation is a major success story. The introduction of the immunosuppressant Cyclosporine A represented a significant advance in preventing graft rejection and the subsequent improved understanding of hepatic anatomy and the development of split liver graft techniques increased the availability of liver grafts to a large number of potential recipients. In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Professor Dieter Broering and his colleagues at the University Hospital of Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel have written an excellent monograph on the “Current Status of Hepatic Transplantation.” The monograph is well illustrated and the bibliography is thorough and extensive. This work will serve as an excellent reference for physicians and surgeons in all disciplines who have an interest in this subject.
