Foreword

Article Outline

In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Dr. Thomas Watson and his associates from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry review the topic of benign diseases of the esophagus. When addressing this subject it is necessary to consider the esophagus and foregut as an anatomic unit, since they are interrelated in esophageal pathophysiology. Many of the esophageal diseases are perplexing and, in an admirable fashion, Dr. Watson and his colleagues describe the disease entities, their diagnosis and proper treatment. This is an excellent monograph, which provides a sole source reference for students of surgery, medicine, and radiology.
