Article Outline

The management of patients with soft tissue sarcomas represents a challenging problem for clinicians in several medical specialties. Surgical resection is the primary therapy but there have been recent significant advances in the small molecule therapy for patients with various histological types of sarcomas, most notably gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery Drs. Liles, Tzeng, Short, Kulesza and Heslin from the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama have written an excellent monograph on “Retroperitoneal and Intraabdominal Sarcoma.” Their treatise provides a state-of-the-art coverage of this most important topic.
