Although there have been remarkable advances in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, this disease continues to represent the leading cause of cancer death in premenopausal women. In this issue of Current Problems in Surgery, Dr. John Vetto and his colleagues at the Oregon Health & Sciences University have written a masterful overview entitled, “Breast Cancer in Premenopausal Women.” Beginning with a discussion of advances in our understanding of pathogenesis, genetics and tumor biology, the monograph provides state of the art information on screening, diagnosis, and the increasingly multidisciplinary management of this common neoplasm.
